Still a little Greek to you? Here's a short video about Twitter.
Ready to get started? Just click the Twitter logo.
As you go through the registration process, Twitter will automatically set up your account to follow about 20 high profile people. To not follow these automatic accounts, just click on "skip this step" at the bottom of your screen. After you're done, return to this page for directions.
Once you've created your Twitter account,
Start "following" people.
Click on each name below to go to their page, then click the "follow" button.
@WorldAm
If nothing else, follow this, the main World Am Tournament twitter feed. Our Twitter team including Kerri, Chris, Gordon, Steve, Dave and Myrtle will all be posting to @worldam. But you'll soon discover that the more you follow, the more interesting it gets.
@MyrtleGolfGuy
Meet Chris King. Chris is the go-to-guy for reporting Myrtle Beach Golf. He's always out either playing, talking about, or threatening to quit golf! Follow his rants and raves throughout the tournament.
@GolfMyrtle
Gordon McCawley is the voice behind GolfMyrtle. As tournament play gets underway, you'll find him out and about on any one of the 50 courses reporting highlights of the day's activities.
@MyrtleGolfBall
Tune in to Myrtle the Golf Ball, our official World Am Spokes-Ball and the most talkative of the bunch. She's engaging Twitter followers 7 days a week, from her unique and entertaining golf-ball perspective.
@WorldAm19th
Join us every night during tournament play, from 7-10pm. We'll be tweeting everyone's comments live from the legendary World's Largest 19th at the World Am, and beaming them out on the Jumbo-tron!
Next, get in touch with your fellow players or friends and family to get their twitter names. Then follow them, and ask them to follow you back.
After you've set up your Twitter account on your computer, you can also use your mobile phone. If you can send a text message, you can tweet! And if you have a Blackberry, iPhone, or any other type of "smart phone," it's even easier and more fun to use Twitter.
To set up your mobile phone, go to your home page on Twitter, click "settings," then "devices," and follow the step-by-step instructions. (Standard text messaging rates apply)
There are also a number of free 3rd party Twitter applications for smart phones. We recommend:
- Blackberry, use Twitterberry
- iPhone, use Tweetie
- for all others, click here
Follow, tweet, repeat.
If your Twitter message is intended for one person only, start your tweet with @theirtwittername. If you want to address a comment to them, but make it public to all who follow you, start your message with a word or two, then include their @name. For example, "Hey @twittername, blah, blah, blah." If you want your comment to be very public, include #worldam in your tweet. (see below for more info.)
How to use #worldam
When any term is preceded by what's called a hashtag (or "Pound sign"), it's automatically tagged and funneled into a larger Twitter stream of comments that includes everything being posted on that topic.
Whenever you post any tweet concerning the world am that you'd like to make public, include #worldam in your 140 characters, usually at the end. To review all comments being made concerning World Am at any time, just go to your Twitter home page, and search "#worldam."
