Handicaps:

What is the minimum or maximum handicap index allowed?
There is no minimum index however the maximum index allowed to participate is a 36.4 for men and 40.4 for women.
When are handicaps due?
A handicap mailing is sent out to all participants around the second week in July. Each participant has approximately 2 weeks to have the information filled out and signed and then either mailed or faxed back to the World Am office. These forms are also available online under DOWNLOADABLE FORMS.
What online handicap systems does the World Am accept?
Any site that is USGA approved, will be accepted by The World Amateur Handicap Championship. A few websites that we accept are: www.golfhound.com; www.nethandicap.com; and www.golfserv.com.
What is required to enter the World Am?
Each player must have an active USGA handicap (or something equivalent to that for international players). When you hand in your handicap verification forms you will need to submit the following: a print out of your most recent 20 scores from 2008, of which two of the scores posted must be tournament scores and cover sheet signed by both you and your pro as well. For any of the criteria that you may not meet (only 17 rounds or no tournaments) your verified handicap will be adjusted slightly.
What are the various age/gender divisions?
The tournament field will consist of six divisions – Men (49 and under), Senior Men (50-59), Mid-Senior Men (60-69), Super-Senior Men (70 and above), Women (49 and under), and Senior Women (49 and above).
If I have a birthday prior to the tournament that would move me into a different division, what should I put my age as on my entry form?
The age to be entered on the entry form is the age the participant will be at the start of the tournament. (i.e. I am 59 right now when I am filling out the form, but I will turn 60 on August 20th (before the start of the tournament) therefore I should fill in 60 for age and will be placed in the Mid-Senior Men division (ages 60-69).
How are participants flighted?
Flights are broken down first by gender, then by age and then by handicap index. For example in 2007 flight 1 was Men 49 and under with a handicap range from –1.9 to a 5.0.
Can I play with a friend?
You may request to play with a friend, but both people will have to play down to the lower age group and lower handicap bracket. For example: If a 65 year old man with a 12 handicap wants to play with his 42 year old son who has a 7.5 handicap, both men would have to play in the 49 and under age group and in the flight that a 7.5 would play. The participant playing down into a lower flight will be able to play at the highest handicap with in that flight (If the range was 5-8.9 than he would play at the 8.9 with his son staying at the 7.5).
