Is There a Course You Would Recommend?
The idea of a one-year, cross country golf trip is merely a dream for most of us, but for Juanita Rosenfeld, a World Am player, it’s a reality.
Last month, Rosenfeld and her fiancé, Mike Evans, began a year-long trek across America in a 41-foot motor home with their golf clubs, a road map, internet access and two dogs. Nearly everything that happens between the Atlantic and Pacific has yet to be determined.
Other than a few course suggestions received from playing partners during this year’s World Am, Rosenfeld and Evans are a blank slate. But they are looking for suggestions.
If you’d like to recommend a course or possibly play a round with them, Rosenfeld is happily accepting suggestions on her blog, where she is also chronicling the couple’s adventures.
Here in tournament headquarters, we are envious of Rosenfeld’s adventure but wish her well!

Lake Presidential GC, in Md., Mattaponi Springs GC in Va., and Baywood Greens GC in Del.
Here are three outstanding courses that I have played. It's getting cool up here, but if it's above 40 degrees,it's still time for a few more rounds.
One of my favorites in Reno, NV is LakeRidge; with great views, the signature 15th hole an Island green and a spectacular view of the city (bring your camera). Designed by famed golf architect, Robert Trent Jones, Sr., LakeRidge Golf Course has been voted "Best of Reno" year after year.
If you are heading to Southern California you need to plan on visiting St. George, UT and Mesquite, NV. Courses I would recommend are:
Coral Canyon, Washington, UT
Green Springs, Washington, UT
Sky Mountain, Hurricane, UT
Sand Hollow Resort, Hurrican, UT
The Ledges, St. George, UT
Sunbrook, St. George, UT
Wolf Creek, Mesquite, NV
October thru April is the expensive time of year to play here, but many of the courses are city owned and reasonably priced. Good luck. Mark
If So. Calif is on your trip list, do not pass up Desert Willow Golf Club, Palm Desert, CA. This is a 36 hole complex, if only one day ask to play Fire Cliff. The Dir. of Golf is Darrel Souza, great guy.
Good Luck,
Mike Tovatt
Sounds like a great trip, if you get to the Dallas/Fort Worth area here's a couple of really nice courses: Grapevine Golf Course, 3 Nines designed by Byron Nelson, Flower Mound Bridlewood and Tour 18 (Replica famous holes) and Coyote Ridge in Carrollton (North Dallas.
Well, enjoy the journey.
Mitch
Juanita and Mike,
If you would end up travelling the PA Turnpike, there are several local courses that I would like to recommend. Down River Golf Course, Everett, Pa,(off the Breezewood exit) Iron Masters Country Club, Roaring Spring, Pa, and
Bedford Springs Resort, Bedford,Pa. All are enjoyable course to play. Down River and Iron Masters are very reasonable on a national scale. Bedford Springs is pricy, but a beautiful course.
Have fun.
Bill Clapper
I nice midwest public I suggest is Cog Hill's Dubsdred #4 in Lemont, IL
Have fun!!!
Doug
Anything for a fellow steelers fan I live in the Spartanburg / Greenville SC area . being originally from the Pittsburgh area Golf here is year round and there are plenty of GREAT courses. You could spend weeks playing some of the best courses in the state just in this area. Tiger even likes it here. he is designing his 1st US course in Ashville An hour a way. Gary Player designed (River Falls GC)here and then moved his world headquarters to the
Cliffs which is very close to here
Make a stop in Kentucky. If you are traveling I64 east from Lexington, take the 181 exit, turn right and follow Rt. 3 approx. 2 mi. You will find Diamond Links on your left. Follow the entrance up the hill to discover a gem hidden in the mountains. And you won't believe the green fees (avg. $24.oo) Met two guys from Texas who just happened to stop when they saw the signs and they said this course in their area would easily cost over $100.00!!You won't be disappointed.
Triad Area of North Carolina: Bryan Park Players and Champs courses. Tanglewood Park East and West courses.
Thornblade Club, Greenville, SC, home club for Jay Haas and Lucas Glover.
In the Dallas/Ft Worth area I would recommend The Tribute, Tour 18, Texas Star, either course at Bear Creek (at DFW Airport), and Cowboys. Oh yeah, try not to flaunt that Steeler shirt while here. Golf Digest's Places to Play book is a great resource.
Four courses await you at
Chateau Elan, Braselton,
Georgia(east of Atlanta).
Their private course is a
rare gem....was home of
the Sarazen World Open
Championship a few years
ago. The Winery and Inn
are worth a visit.
Two additional courses in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area is Cowboy's, which is right next to the Grapevine courses (it is a little pricey but you can stomp on the Dallas Cowboy Star in the middle of their signature hole like T.O. did when he was an Eagle) and The Golf Club at Champions Circle (which is much more reasonably priced and it is a Troon Course and in the shadow of the Texas Motor Speedway north of Ft. Worth.)
TPC of Louisiana is a very good course to play. It is home of the Zurick Classic of New Orleans and is a public course. It is located in Avondale, La.
What is your preliminary route. I have played golf all over the US, Florida to California, Michigan to Texas. Give me some idea on your route and I will make some suggestions. I grew up in South Carolina and moved to North Carolina. You could spend a year just playing the top of the line clubs in those two states alone.
When you visit the east coast you need to play Eagles landing in the Ocean City area of Maryland. It is an excellent run public golf course owned by the town of Ocean City. The staff is very friendly and the layout is just superb for a public course. The course is designated by the Audubon Society. I play it as much as possible as a local resident.
Dominic
Mariana Buttes in Loveland, Co. This has to be the most fun course I have ever played. Must play when you are in the area.
If you get to Phoenix/Chandler, AZ try Ocotillo, great course with lots of water.
If you come to the St. Louis area, you have to play Annbriar in Waterloo,Il. One of the best public courses in the area. Or try The Missouri Bluffs in St. Charles.
Can't go wrong with either one.
If you come to TX you have to come and play my club. Walden on Lake Conroe.
If in the Pinehurst area, I suggest playing Tobacco Road. If in the Hickory/Conover area of North Carolina, I suggest The Rock Barn
(Senior PGA tour plays here and it's just off of I-40 in Conover).
Upstate NY:
Saratoga National
Sagamore Resort
Turning Stone Casino (Atunyote, Shenendoah)
Wolfort's Roost
I don't know if your plans include a visit to Canada, but Niagara Falls is a must see on any road trip - suggest June or July for good golf. Whirlpool and the Legends of Niagara are 2 of my favorites. My home course is less than 80 miles to the west. We hosted the provincail amateur championships this year and currently rate #77 in the country. You would be welcome to play there as my guests.
We are on our way to Myrtle Beach for 10 days of golf next Thursday and looking forward to it.
We'll follow the blog with interest.
Go Steelers! As far as hidden gems, I would highly recommend Nags Head Golf Links on NC's beautiful Outer Banks! This a true links experience and a favorite among golfers in this region. Always immaculate, the challenge and beauty of this track is unreal! In true links fashion, this course plays differently depending on weather conditions...the wind(or lack thereof)always comes into play! The area also boasts a handful of quality courses such as The Currituck Club, Kilmarlic, The Pointe, and The Carolina Club just to name a few! If you have never been there, the Outer Banks of NC are a must-visit!
Come play Hiddenbrooke Golf Club, a world-class championship golf course designed by golf legend, Arnold Palmer. Golf Digest recently awarded Hiddenbrooke the prestigious four and a half out of five star rating. Our home overlooks the dramatic Par 5 Fairway on the back 9 and we'd love to play with you here in sunny Northern California.
I belong to an excellent course in Northern Virginia. I assume you'll not head north until the spring. If you plan on a trip to Virginia I'd be more than happy to host you for a round at Old Hickory in Woodbridge Virginia. Woodbridge is about 25 miles south of Washington DC on I95.
We own the toughest finishing hole in Virginia, a mere 600 yard par 5 to a well bunkered up hill green. I think this would add greatly to your golfing experience.
Drop me a line if you head this direction and I'll be more than happy to host you for a day of great golf.
Jay
Northfield Golf Club in Northfield, MN is a great course. Beautiful and challenging for all level of players. The course is treelined, and the greens are difficult. Of course, May - September is the time to be in Minnesota, so plan your travel accordingly. Playing NGC once is not enough! Exit Hwy 19 east from Interstate 35, go east on 19 until you come to a T in the road. Turn right 3 blocks and you are at the course entrance.
There are several great public courses around the Dallas/Ft Worth area. In order of cost, high to low, I recommend:
Cowboys Golf Club
The Tribute Golf Club
The Golf Club at Castle Hills
The Golf Club at Fossil Creek
Tierra Verde
Fuzzy Zoellers two courses just 10 15 miles north of downtown Louisville, KY:
Champions Point and Covered Bridges
Anyone that has not heard of Hot Spring Village in HSV, Ark have missed a great oppunity to play 8 of the best Golf Courses in America. Granada,Isabella,Cortez,Balboa,Magellon,Corornada, Ponce,Desoto will have missed some great Golf and this 26,000 Acre Community is a unbelivabl place to live.
Jerry Clark
Hi Juanita & Mike: Sounds like a fabulous idea for a cross-country year-long journey. If you get to the NY area next Spring, my wife Ellen and I would love to invite you to play at either or both of our clubs: Metropolis CC, a Tillinghast beauty near White Plains, and Gardiner's Bay CC on Shelter Island, close to the east end of Long Island. Other clubs in the NY metro area that I'd recommend are Long Island National (Rees Jones), Mansion Ridge (Nicklaus), Casperkill, and Hudson Hills. Keep your posts coming, and if you're coming to the Northeast, give me a call at 212-667-4006. All the best & keep 'em on the short grass. Regards, Larry
Come to Louisville Ky and visit the Valhalla course.
If you are going anywhere near VA, the Signature at West Neck...in Virginia Beach, Va is a beautiful course. Designed by Arnie Palmer, I understand it is owned by a horticulturist that doesn't play golf. He drives around and says...you know what would look there...and puts it in.
I challenging course in VA is Stonehouse. Impossible to walk...too many hills and valleys. They have a 180 yd par 3 that is from the edge of one hill to the edge of the other with nothing but a deep valley between the tee and the green. You don't reach the green, there is no retrieving your ball.
If you are in the west of Philadelphia area any of these would be worth the play.
Turtle Creek GC, Limerick, PA 19468-1717
Bella Vista GC, Gilbertsville, PA 19525-9750
Broad Run GC, West Chester, PA 19380-1594
Raven's Claw GC, Pottstown, PA 19464-3494
Loch Nairn GC, Avondale, PA 19311-9534
Moccasin Run GC, Atglen, PA 19310-9636
and the best kept secret;
Blackwood GC, Douglassville, PA 19518-9321
You could play everyone of these courses and be very happy to come back the next day to play again. They are all great!
Hot Springs Village, Arkansas has 171 holes of golf for year round enjoyment. I'm a member of Diamante Country Club within Hot Springs Village and would recommend Diamante or any other course in Hot Springs Village. Hot Springs Village is one of golf's "Best Kept Secrets"
If the trip goes through Southeastern Missouri be sure to play Boot Heel Golf Club. It is a links style course which means it changes as the wind changes. The wind blows 10-15 mph every day and changes directions during day. this course is a good test for most players.
IN THE INDIANAPOLIS AREA YOU WOULD WANT TO CONSIDER:
CROOKED STICK - PRIVATE
WOLF RUN - PRIVATE
BRICKYARD CROSSING - PUBLIC
2 courses in the Houston Texas area I would recommend.
First one is in Missouri City. It is the Quail Valley El Dorado course. It has been closed for a couple of years and was recently totally rebuilt. It is scheduled to open Thanksgiving weekend 2009. The course was stripped, lakes dug, new mounding and bunkering added, all the greens were bulldozed away and rebuilt.
The second course is north of Houston and is Woodforest at Fish Creek. It is a Steve Elkington design. It is one of the best manicured golf courses in the Houston Texas area.
Good luck to you
If by chance you run the east side of NE & border of SE SD, there is a nine hole course at Croton, NE THAT must be included in your trip.
How were you able to take off a year to tour the country and play golf? I just look for a chance to play on the weekend.
Jealous, very, very jealous. Have a great trip. If you make it to New Jersey, I think one of the best public courses is located within the Rutgers University campus. That would be the Rutgers University Golf Course. The url is http://golfcourse.rutgers.edu/ I play with my foursome every week and is a very well maintained course and is well laid out.
The other public course is in Somerset county. Neshanic Valley golf course. Url is http://somersetcountyparks.org/parksFacilities/nvgc/index.htm it is an excellent course.
Memorial Park Houston Texas. city course previously used for Houston Open.
Try Green Mountain National on Route 100N on Killington Mountain in Mendon, Vermont. I have played 100's of different golf courses all over the US and Ireland and Scotland and this is my #1 course in all of the US. This is a mountain course with lots of elevated tee shots, some water, good bunkering and some of the most beautiful views of the Green Mountains of Vermont. My wife and I will play it with you as it's about 70 miles from our home in Queensbury, NY
My 2nd favorite course in the US is south of Myrtle Beach, SC, and is The Tradition. It is an old time course with lots of water and great bunkers plus the gals in the bar make the best chocolate chip cookies in the south. Very friendly people down there.
if you ever get down to south georgia look up Sanctuary Cove of Waverly Ga. It is a Fred Couples deisgn which Davis Love 111 built. It is a good challenge in playing from any tee.
If you are in the Salt Lake area I would highly recommend two courses just north of Salt Lake, Valley View in Layton and Bountiful Ridge in Bountiful. Or 50 min east of Salt Lake you have some mountain two courses at Wasatch Mountain (Midway Utah), I prefer the Lake course over the Mountain, you also have Homestead and Soldier Hollow courses within in minutes in the Heber Valley
If you travel thru the SW be sure to play Paa Ko Ridge Golf Course in Sandia Park, NM. (just east of Albuquerque)It's a scenic beauty and a challenge. I've worked and played there for ten years. Nothing better in the Southwest.
Western Hills Country Club in Cincinnati Ohio
Built in 1912, a private country club and a excellent playing track.
I would personally make your tee time and would be honored playing with you.
Diner would be on me.
I am the Assistant Golf Pro at a must play course just outside Ft.Worth,Tx.. You'll have to use your gps to get here..but it is well worth the trip to SugarTree Golf & Country Club..located on the Brazos River 10 miles south of I-20 exit 403 (Dennis Rd) just west of Weatherford,Tx...Ranked #18 by Texas Golf Pros and known as The Hidden Gem of Texas Golf..stop in and introduce yourself and I'll take care of the golf!! Have fun on your trek across America!!
When visiting Virginia, stop in at Williamsburg. King's Mill is wonderful. There are three courses, The Plantation, The Woods, and The River Course. The latter, up until this year was a LPGA tour stop and was considered the "5th" major. It's a Pete Dye Course so bring your A game. Also, you could not ask for a friendlier staff. Down home Virginia hospitality.
There are some nice public courses here in the northeast. In new hampshire I recommend The oaks in Sommersworth. in Maine play the Ledges in York, ME. And In Mass play Cyprian Keyes, Blackstone National, or red Tail - all good courses.
good luck and have fun
I see someone has already suggested Fuzzy's 2 courses in southern Indiana. If you like a links style course come to Rising Sun, Indiana and play at the Grand Victoria Resort and Casino. The course is top-notch and the Casino has a great buffet and enjoy some gambling while you are there. It is still good golf weather here, email me and I will join you for a round and since I am a member I can save you a few bucks!
The best golf course in central west coast of Florida would have to be River Strand Golf and Country Club. It is a Arthur Hills designed course with 27 fabulous holes. It is located in Bradenton, Fl less then 1 mile from Interstate 75. You can not be disappointed in the quality of the course and the personnel who work there.
Troy Burne golf club in Hudson, WI beautiful course and very challenging, guaranteed you wont be disappointed.
If you make a pass through Oregon, where we have numerous beautiful courses, with very reasonable green fees, don't skip Stone Creek in Oregon City.
It was designed by a team including Peter Jacobsen, and you might spot deer, hawks or even a cougar!
If you would like a beautiful new England course, then Butter Brook Golf club in Westford Ma. is the course for you. Only 5 years old and family run and always in great shape. Butter Brook will give you a look at two different courses in one. The front nine is tree lined with large oaks, maple, and pine trees. The back nine is a links sytle course and when the wind blows could be very tough. Generous fairways and large greens makes it enjoyable to all skill levels but pin placements could be very difficult to get at. Well bunkered and only 6800 yds from the back tees. Most ladies play the white tees. If you are in the area but I would plan for a nice Spring day lately, I would be glad to play a round with you. If you go it alone, just tell Betty Dennis sent you.
Good luck in your quest, dennis
As a fellow Steelers fan since the days of Franco Harris, I recommend you try a round at Cannon Ridge Golf Club in Fredericksburg, Virginia. The course, designed by former PGA commissioner Deane Beman and Bobby Weed, is located just off Interstate 95 at exit 33. Enjoy your adventure!
Hi, As a person who has played golf in all 50 states, depending on your travel route I could give you some of the best. My last was in Alaska in Anchorage where there are 3 courses and all 3 are good but if you play for beauty , play the Anchorage Golf Club. If you need more info, let me know.
Golf club at Fleming Island/ Orange Park Florida
Eagle Landing Golf Club/ Jacksonville Florida
Palencia country club/Jacksonville Florida/
Sawgrass Stadium/ Jacksonville Florida
Sawgrass Valley Course/ Jacksonville Florida
We are overwhelmed with the wonderful responses from our fellow golf addicts. Thank you and for those of you who have left your phone numbers and invites to play, trust me, if we are anywhere near you, we will call and set up a game! Now I just need an Admin to help me set this up along with our RV camps! Some have asked about our preliminary route. We are right now on the gulf, heading west through Baton Rouge, through Houston, San Antonio, so that we can spend Thanksgiving with my family in Redlands, CA. We will also spend some time visiting with our San Diego friends. After that, the trip really begins with no real agenda but to stay warm and play golf. We'll be working our way toward south Florida after Thanksgiving so we'll be taking the southern route. We will hit the Carolinas in the Spring since I am playing at Rock Barn (Hickory) in an invitational. Then we'll head north up the east coast and then work our way west along the northern route during the summer. In the Fall we'll come down the west coast hitting courses in Washington, Oregon, and the parts of CA we'll miss this time. If our home in North Myrtle Beach has sold by then, we'll hopefully head to our new home yet to be determined. Y'all have given me some great ideas to put a travel plan together. Our main goal with this year long golf extravaganza is to find the perfect golf club for our lifestyle. We're looking for somewhere warm most of the year, near water (fresh or salt), private, reasonable initiation, walkable, and either a cart plan or trail fee. Before hitting the road I was playing 7-10 times a week so paying cart fees got to be a problem. And yes, I know I need a 12 step program for this addiction of mine. If you know of THE spot for folks like us that has a fun active membership, please send those ideas asap.
Thank you from the bottom of my spikes!!!
If you make it to SE Pa, there are several courses well worth investigating, all within about 25 miles of Philadelphia. Broadrun Golfers Club, outside of West Chester/Downingtown, is a Rees Jones gem on over 300 acres of rolling land, that can't be beat for layout, value & conditions. In the Kennett Square area, there is Wyncote, which is a wide open, links style course that is never w/out a steady breeze. A little closer to Philly is Glen Mills, which has received kudos for providing career training for troubled youths at the school that is on site. This Bobby Weed design can be a very tough test if your game is off, but conditions are always outstanding. If you are looking for "Bang for Buck" along with good golf, visit the 2 courses @ Briarwood, in York, Pa. You can play 36 holes, w/cart, for around $40 on pretty good conditions/excellent putting surfaces, and they teat you GREAT. After golf, go in town to Coombs for a 1 lb prime rib for about $17!!
If you're heading to the SF Bay area there are plenty of high profile fancy expensive courses. I say forget them and get yourself to Lake Chabot Golf course. It's an amazing course that you will never forget due to the amazing veiws, rolling hills and wildlife but the big finish is the the 673 yard par 6 finishing hole.
I would like to recommend the great South Puget Sound around Olympia, Dupont, and Tacoma, Washington. We have more than enough great courses to put together a great championship in the Northwest. The Links and Woodlands at the Golf Course at Hawks Prairie, Lacey, WA; Capitol City Golf Course, Olympia, Indian Summer Golf Course (country club); the Home Course - owned by the NW Golf Association in Dupont and the Chambers Bay Golf Course, University Place (Tacoma)home of the 2012 US Open. There are also University courses in the area as well - open to the public. It would be easy to assemble the number of courses necessary to have an outstanding tournament as well as contribute greatly to several close communities at the same time. Tons of eating places and shopping centers. LA Fitness Centers and Bally Fitness Centers as others in close proximity to any course or hotel. Lots of hotel, motel accommodations. Think of the mayoral, governor and business support that would be available for such a large endeavor. These golf courses are managed by some of the best in the country. It is truly first class all the way. I would be glad to talk to you and get you in touch with the right resources. 360-402-4130
Kenny Perry's Country Creek. Exit 2 on I 65 in Kentucky. Just 20 North of Nashville, TN. Great people and great golf. Sometimes Kenny is even working the counter to take you money or on the driving range.
I RECCOMEND BATTLE CREEK GC IN BROKEN ARROW OKLAHOMA. TOP RATED COURSE IN SOUTH CENTRAL OK. BILL WAGNER HEAD PRO.
YES I WOULD IT IS A VERY NICE COURSE TO PLAY $30 GREEN FEE ,A NICE ITALIAN RESTURANT AT CLUB HOUSE .VERY NICE YOGI
Calendonia Fish and Golf Club - Pawleys Island/Myrtle Beach
Kings North - Myrtle Beach
The Witch - Myrtle Beach
If you're in the Annapolis/DC area here's a short list...
1 Queenstown River (Queenstown MD)
2 Lake Presidential (Upper Marlboro MD)
3 Swan Point (Issue MD)
Cottonwood Hills Hutchinson, Kansas and Sand Creek Station @ Newton, Kansas
If you go to my golf web site you can get a listing of over 250 courses from 20 states and 2 provinces in which I have photographed and given play tips and descriptions of each hole on every course. When you get into Dallas are the Fred Couples signature course in Gunter, TX is outstanding. Avery Ranch in Austin, TX. Winstar in Oklahoma along the boarder of OK and TX. Falconhead Golf Club just about 30 miles from the TX boarder in Oklahoma. Any of the ocurses on my web site were fun to play and most are exceptional golf.
Have fun on your trip.
How about traveling down to Tampa, where the Steelers won the SuperBowl last year!!!! My home course is located in Valrico, just east of Tampa. The course is a shot makers special, with pleanty of winding fairways and water. There is also wild life to photo should you desire, Sandhill Cranes, Racoons, and the popular aligator, as in UF #1.
Bloomingdale Golfers Club in Valrico, Florida.
When you hit our Nation's Capital, you must play East Potomac Golf Course. You get 18 holes of spectacular golf with views of the Washington Monument, Jefferson Memorial, & Reagan National.
Houston - Redstone Golf Club (Tournament Course) where they play the Shell (Top 100)
Dallas - Old American Golf Club (New) Justin Leonard Design at the Tribute Golf Club (Will be Top 100)
Austin - Barton Creek Fazio Canyons (Top 75)
San Antonio - TPC San Antonio (New) (Will be Top 100)
Give me a ring if you have any questions.

SEA OAKS COUNTRY CLUB IN LITTLE EGG HARBOR, NEW JERSEY AND SHORE GATE COUNTRY CLUB IN SOUTH JERSEY EXIT 17 OFF THE GARDEN STATE PARKWAY. GOOD LUCK
Southern Illinois has severl nice tracks for low cost, the Gambit in Veana is a good one for twenty five or thirty dollars including cart
Strongly recommend Gold Canyon, Dinasaur course in Gold Canyon AZ (just a bit east of Phoenix). Very hilly, spectacular views(you can see for 40 miles at the fifth tee). Located in the Superstition Mountains. A stunner of a hilly course, but playable and in great condition. You won't forget it.
If you are in southern Oregon, The Running Y Ranch is a great course to play.
If you pass through Ohio I would recommend: Black Diamond in Millersburg, this course is in the middle of Amish Country and plenty to see during the downtime. Red Hawk Run in Findlay is an excellent Links style course.
Hello, we are from Dunnellon Fl. 16 miles west of Ocala you have to play at RAINBOW SPRINGS GOLF & COUNTRY CLUB you will love it, we moved here 5 years ago from CAPE COD MA., back on the CAPE we lived in SOUTH YARMOUTH MA., and belonged to the BASS RIVER GOLF COURSE it also was a beautiful coures. Hope you get to play each one of them.
HAVE A SAFE TRIP ON THE ROAD, JUDY
Tobacco Road in Sanford NC is a great course and
Tanglewood Golf club in Winston-Salem has two
great courses. I envy you, if I could afford
to stop working I would be right with you.
Have fun & God Bless.
Bonnie Byrd
Sounds like a trip of a life time. Enjoy! If you are in Ocala Florida we have a new public course that has just been renovated that is fantastic. The greens are dwarf bermuda. Only a couple of courses in Florida offer it and they roll like bent. Golf fees are very reasonable. The course is hilly and the greens have many breaks. I'm sure you will look forward to playing this track a few times. Plenty of RV sites to stay. If you know anything about the Ocala area there are 50 courses in a 35 mile area and many fine courses to choose from. You may never want to go home. Look me up if you are in the area and I will play a round with you. How many strokes did you say you would spot me?
I am so jealous of you two. If I quite my job, can I come along with you??
Well, I live in Cleveland, Ohio and it is not the best place to be playing golf right now, but come spring or summer time, I have a great course for you. It just turned public and is a real fun course with fast greens. The course is surrounded by beautiful old homes. The name of the course is Tanglewood National. It is located in Banbridge, just east of downtown Cleveland about 20 miles. 440-543-3752. Talk with Matt or Pete and they will take care of you, but don't go there without me! Call or email me when you plan to be in the Cleveland area and I will take care of you. We are the capital of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame! kclick7030@aol.com.
Safe travels. May God be with you through out your travels.
Ken
If stopping by Niagara Falls, Thundering Waters is a scenic and quite challenging course in Niagara Falls, Ontario.
I think its to cool if you guys are in east Tn check out Creekside in Seymour its a good test for a 9 hole course greens are great and theres lots of water. fairways and greens . may God be with you always.
In Orlando, Fl. the Disney Magnolia and Palm. In Apopka, Fl. Stoneybrook West
I recommend Bonnie Brae Golf Club, 1116 Ashmore Bridge Road in Greenville, SC.
Bonnie Brea is a semi-private course and the management is committed to keeping the course in fine shape.
Additionally, the club professional, Dale Heflin, is committed to a strong "First Tee" program that
has several youngsters participating in the program.
There may be more expensive and namely courses in the area but in my opinion, Bonnie Brea as a staff commited to the game of Golf.
If you're going to the Tulsa, Ok. area I suggest Forest Ridge golf course. It's rated 4 stars from golf digest. It's in great shape. I also recommend The Badlands in Las Vegas. It is one of the most difficult courses I have ever played. It is also gorgeous and immaculate.
I would play Tabacco Road ia Sanford,NC.It ia just 20 miles north of Pinehurst.Fairways & greens are green year round & always in great shape.
Come to Houston right now, temps in the low 80's try Tour 18. Good Golf, nice people, well maintained. Good luck!
If you are in the LA. area
Go to the TRUMP NATIONAL course in San Pedro
Fabulous course but pricey.
If you get to LAS VEGAS I would like to recommend PAINTED DESERT GOLF COURSE it is the first of the desert courses in vegas and i am a resident there I would love to invite you to play there please feel free to contac me if you wish
If you make it through Georgia stop by Bentwater Golf CLUB IN Acworth, Ga. about forty miles north of Atlanta. I WORK there and you get a pretty good break if I play with you. Its is a great course.
Don't want to miss this course, always in great conditon through and through. The Patriot at Grand Harbor Ninety Six, SC This is on Lake Greenwood.
Mansion Ridge in Monroe, NY
The loneliness golf course in Nevada, Round Mountain Golf Course. (web site)www.rmgcgolf.com
It is the longest 9 hole course in Nevada, Best time to visit would be between May-September, it is a high mountain course.

If you are in the Raleigh, NC area even as far as Pinehurst (an hours drive) you MUST play the newly opened course at NC State University. LONNIE POOLE GOLF COURSE is going to be the Premier course in this area in a very short while. Meanwhile it is a joy to play and very reasonable Mon-Thur.
Bob Robinson
Being from Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada, I would definitely recommend a couple of courses right in my area. Rivershore Golf Links is a favorite because it is a true test of golf.... Tobiano is challenging and the views from each hole are amazing... either of these courses I highly recommend....
If you are going to Detroit, when you leave cut across Canada to Ft Erie- Niagara Falls. right between the two you will find Legends on the Niagara. My personal choice is Ussher's Creek. Cross the Peace Bridge or Rainbow Bridge(can see Niagara Falls from here). Get on I 90 east towards Buffalo then New York, get off at exit 44 and ask for directions to Ravenwood, you won't be disappointed. Have a good trip you lucky dogs, be safe.
While there are a zillion great SC courses around Myrtle, try Cheraw State Park, just outside Cheraw SC. Recently rated #1 Muni in SC
Since you are in the Southeast, here are some great courses which are in top shape and will not cost the same as a tank of fuel in your RV
Cheraw St Park, Cheraw SC....Beautiful course always well manicured. Weekday rack rates in the low 30's with a very cheap replay..
In the Charlotte, NC area..
My favorite...Stonebridge Golf Club, Mineral Springs, NC. Looks like a private facility but it isn't. This course is absolutely plush. Rack rates in the low 40's on weekdays.
Another semi private track of mine is Olde Sycamore in Mint Hill, NC. This one is a Tom Jackson design. It is a parkland course with many elevation changes. It is one of the best courses in the Charlotte area. For a bit of a challenge, try the "Player's Course". Ask in the pro shop for explanation.
If you are travelieng to the northeast after the cold weather departs, here are a few suggestions...
In the Upstate region of Eastern NY,
Instead of dropping well over $100 on a round at Saratoga National, try the nearby Saratoga Spa State Park Course. It's inexpensive and beautifully maintained.
Along the shores of Lake Camplain near Plattsburgh is Bluff Point. Thre holes play on with views of the Lake. This is one of the oldest golf courses in NY State. In fact such famous people as Babe Ruth and Mickey Rooney have played there. Not an overly long course, but is a challenge nonetheless.
Near Lake Placid , The CraigWood Golf course. This is named after PGA professional Craig Wood, who was a top player in the 1930's. Once allowed to fall into disrepair this course has made a huge comeback. I played in Summer 2009 and it is in tip top shape. It is a hilly course but is not unfair.
One last course in Upstate, NY is the Brookhaven Golf Club.. This course in Greenfield, NY is/was owned by International Paper. It is on the top of a plateau and is surrounded by huge pines and spruce trees. It tends to play a bit long. The course is always a blast. The conditions are just primo for such an inexpensive green/cart fee.
Love Mattaponi Springs golf course, north of Richmond, just 30 mins off 95. Mattaponi Springs was rated 5 in nation a few years back. May allow you to overnight with the motorhome.

A Must Play!!! Look forward to hearing your response from courses played.
If you're traveling I70 through Kansas (Though God knows why in the winter), Colbert Hills in Manhattan, KS is a superb Jim Colbert design. Rated among the best in the state.

Sounds like lot of fun and adventure. You are living our dream :). If you come to NJ, look for Neshanic valley gc in somerset. Really nice one. Have fun and enjoy the white ball. See you in NJ.
If you're passing through the Midwest, I recommend a resort course, Season's Ridge, at the Four Seasons in Osage Beach, Missouri, in the Ozark Mountian foothills, near Lake of the Ozarks. Beautiful, challenging, and fun, it's my favorite course anywhere. Hope you get to play it.
Gaylord, Michigan golf gourses: The Black Forest at Wilderness Valley Golf Resort, Treetops
Stanwood, Michigan: Tullymore and St. Ives at Canadian Lakes.
Indianapolis, Indiana: The Fort
Cicero, Indiana: Bear Slide
The Missouri Bluffs in St Charles, Mo (st louis area) is very scenic and an excellent course if you're in this area a must play.
If you are headed into Washington near Seattle you must play one of the Pacific Northwest best view, challenges, settings, bag pipes scotish type golf coarses in the country. Fred couples & Coups designed it in 1999, New Castle coal creek and China creek, you need to go to the web site and just get a fraction of what you would be getting into.

I think your trip should include a trip to the desert of Neveda. Specifically, Mesquite. Only last week they hosted the RE/MAX world long drive championship. The courses there include Wolf Creek(in top 100 best courses in U.S.) Nearby are also some of the most beautiful courses you could lay eyes on. ST George, UT is only 45 minutes away. That area includes Sand Hollow golf course, Coral Canyon, The Ridges and Sky Mountain. Those are the most breath-taking views a golfer could ever ask for. I do get out to play the courses in, and near Myrtle Beach. So, yes play what you will. Please come out west and see what this area has to offer. Have a great time on your trip. Mark Lindsay(chickenlegs) 75+ round a year. 15 handicap(too old to get any better)
As you make your way west, be sure to stop and see the wonderful courses we have to offer in the Pacific Northwest. I am speaking specifically about the Spokane, Washington area. Indian Canyon, MeadowWood, and the new Palouse course to name a few are as good any daily fee courses in the country.
come to long island -bethpage state park has 5 of the best courses in the business ...
If your in Nashville, TN, play Hermitage. They have two great 18 hole courses.
Here in CT around my area, there are three courses I would recommend you play:

In south central Pennsylvania I recommend Iron Valley in Lebanon, The Links in Gettysburg and Dauphin Highlands in Harrisburg.
From Baton Rouge, you're not too far from my favorite course in Louisiana. Cypress Bend Golf Resort outside of Many, LA on the Louisiana side of Toledo Bend Resevoir. Search the Resort's website for a course overview & other pics. It's right on the resevoir ; very beuatiful.

Boy, she's nice looking and has money PLUS loves to play golf!! Old Mr. Rosenfeld must have left her with a bundle in order to take off a full year to travel and play golf. I tell you Mike the boyfriend is the lucky one. Come on down to Callaway Gardens in west central Georgia, if you're ever headed this way. Two courses and very nice not to mention all the other things Callaway has to offer. Tony F.
When you take the northern route this summer,The summer Golf capital is Northern Michigan. My favorites are:

Savannah Ga has several great courses then hit Hilton Head and do Harbor Town.

Branson, Missouri
Branson Creek. #1 public course in Missouri designed by Tom Fazio. The new Payne Stewart tribute course is just 10 minutes down the road.
And if there should be a rainy day you can go to any of the more then 100 music shows. And I might be able to arrange a tour of The Fudge Shop, Branson's oldest candy store. Also there are plenty of motor home campgrounds.
You might want to try Serling Farms GC in Stamford Ct, and Oxford GC in Oxford Ct.

If you get to the Peoria, Ill area...about half way between Chicago and St.Louis try Coyote Creek. It was designed by Bruce Borland, a designer for Jack Nicklaus. Bruce was with Payne Stewart on that fatal plane flight. Bruce gave his time and efforts in designing Coyote Creek as a way of giving back to the community he was raised in. Great man/Great course.

You are doing what I always wanted to do. Play course from at least every state. One course I would like to recommend is a Fred Couples course in Centerville, Va. (just 25 miles west of Washington, DC) The Westfield course is well maintained and a great layout. Please play and enjoy.
Jim Sojka\Manassas, VA
If you find yourself in central Missouri at Lake of the Ozarks, you must come to Eldon MO and play Eldon Golf & Country Club. It is one of the best courses at the Lake. www.eldoncountryclub.com
Check us out.
Iron Valley, just outside Lebanon, PA is one of the most interesting courses I have ever seen or played. Each nine has it's own unique paersonality. The front nine is land reclaimed from an old mine site, a parkland-style layout with incredible elevation changes and fascinating designs. The back nine plays largely on a plateau and is links style. It also features an amazing view of the Lebanon Valley from the tenth green and eleventh tee. Not Overly long, but very difficult. Great golf for a reasonable rate.
If you make it to Maine this summer I highly recommend Sunday River Golf Course near Bethel. Breathtakingly beautiful course. In Clinton, Maine there is a 9-hole course, somewhat difficult,a bit out of the way but meticulously maintained. For years it was a private course built by Steve Brown. It is now open to the public and well worth the trip. Tee times are 1/2 hour apart so you often feel like you're the only person on the course. Another course worth the trip is Belgrade Lake. Good luck on your adventure.
