Media Roundup - Paul Ciancanelli Tribute Edition
We will get to a roundup of media coverage, but first a moment to acknowledge the coldest World Amateur in history. After four days of (occasionally) seeing people in jackets - for you non-believers, checkout the accompanying photo, which was taken at 10:30 a.m. this morning Tidewater – I have officially declared 2009 the chilliest World Am ever.
To confirm my hunch, which was based on the fact no one wears a jacket or long sleeves in Myrtle Beach in August, save for a medical purposes, I conferred with a few of the event’s 26-year participants. Without a moment’s hesitation Bob and Don Yelton and Fred Pugh all confirmed this year’s historic lows, which plunged into the upper 60s in the morning hours.
Mercifully no one suffered frostbite, according to tournament officials, who were particularly concerned about how the temperatures would affect our large contingent of players from the Northeast and Canada.
In all seriousness, after rain on the opening morning, the weather for this year’s event has been nearly perfect. Regardless of where you finished, that is something for all of us to be thankful for.
Today’s roundup of media coverage is dedicated to Paul Ciancanelli, himself a 26-year player.
Leading off is our favorite Golf Channel blogger, Erik Peterson, who covered a lot of fertile ground in his first visit to the tournament. Peterson is definitely worth a read this week and beyond.
Al Blondin explains why Ciancanelli continues to return to the World Am 16 years after he said he was going to stop.
If merely reading about Paul isn’t enough – The Sun News put together a Ciancanelli photo gallery!
WMBF explored what spouses do during when their significant others are on the course, featuring Ciancanelli’s wife, Molly.
Blondin tells D.J. Gregory’s story.
Bob Bestler catches up with Craig Bush, who won a condo at the 2005 World Am.
