Tournament Director Q&A - Your Questions Answered

At the end of the day, sportsmanship is paramount.jpg

In the wake of the format changes to the 2009 World Amateur Handicap Championship, there were several recurring questions. To help clear up any potential confusion, World Am tournament director Dave Macpherson answers your most frequently asked questions.

Will players still be able to request to play in the same flight with a friend?
Yes. Just as in years past, players will have the ability to request to play with a friend. The request has to be made on a player’s handicap verification, and if two players want to be flighted together, the player with the higher handicap will have to play down to that of the player he/she requested to play with. The tournament doesn’t guarantee individual pairings.

The Shops in Myrtle Beach Bring Big Fun

| | Comments (0) | TrackBacks (0)

When you are walking around in Myrtle Beach one of the first things that you should notice is that there are a lot of little tiny shops dotting the shoreline in this fabulous coastal town. Like any beach-oriented community, the tiny gift shops really give you the local flavor. Plus looking around in each shop is a lot of fun. One of the queerest named shops along the beach is the Gay Dolphin on 916 N Ocean Blvd. They proclaim themselves “The Grand Strand’s Largest Gift Shop.” The shop specializes in the seashells and “sand in a bag” you would expect from any gift shop in the area. This store is a little different though. They cater to a 1930s vibe that is not only nostalgic for the young, but also the young at heart. Who wouldn’t want to live in the peaceful time of corsets and ice cream cones and long walks down the pier? It’s a tradition for some people to visit every time they come to Myrtle Beach.

If the Victorian era is not your cup of tea you might want to try Tiki Jims on 1203 Celebrity Cir # N155. They are a little tougher than your average beach side gift shop. They, of course, specialize in kitschy tacky tiki products. They also have a tradition of serving those who serve us. They feature a large variety of police, fire, and paramedic shirts. Some shirts even have designs that you can’t find anywhere else. When the sun beats down on you and you start to wish that it was winter time you might want to duck into the Mole Hole on 1323 Celebrity Cir # G135. This shop has a lot of Christmas items. You might not equate Christmas with Myrtle Beach but Santa has to take a vacation too once in a while, don’t you know? Visitors to this shop are amazed by the wide selection of yuletide cheer and by the courteous and helpful staff.

So while all of these tiny shops around Myrtle Beach are fun there are also giant shop favorites like Cracker Barrel and The Disney Store. These larger stores are just as nice but are a little generic. If you want to get a true sense of where you have decided to spend your vacation, huge places like this might not be the way to go. My favorite shop is the Shell Shop. It’s a tiny little place, steps from the main pier. Imagine a store stocked with nothing but shells from around the world. That’s the Shell Shop. Great for kids, the shop sells shells of every size from a 5-cent clam to a $5000 great white shark skull. Just looking around the place is an attraction in itself.

In the end wherever you decide to spend your important souvenir money during your stay in Myrtle Beach you’re sure to find a place filled with whimsy or Christmas delight. Most of all you’ll find a great staff with a smile on their face to remind you that popping in and out of the small shops around Myrtle Beach can be just as fun as hanging out on the beach itself. Plus you don’t have to worry about the sand! When you are walking around in Myrtle Beach one...
