What To Expect in 2009
I hope this post finds you doing well. It is my pleasure to extend an invitation for you to compete in the 2009 PGA TOUR Superstore World Amateur Handicap Championship, scheduled for August 31st – September 4th in Myrtle Beach, SC.
The 2008 participant survey proved to be a valuable source of information while planning for 2009. We received completed surveys from over 50% of the field, the highest response we have ever seen.
After reviewing the information, we decided to make some major changes to help improve key aspects of the event. Without further ado, it’s on to what the World Am has in store in 2009:
Tournament Changes
More Players to the Dunes Club – 2009 will see flight sizes reduced from roughly 100 golfers, to no more than 48. This will essentially double your chances of reaching the Flight Winners Playoff at the Dunes Golf & Beach Club. Each golf course will host two flights per day, with no more than 96 golfers at a course.

The PGA TOUR Superstore World Amateur Handicap Championship has grown into the world’s largest single-site golf tournament, attracting the most diverse crowd in golf to Myrtle Beach. Doctors and lawyers ride with construction workers and plumbers, all in pursuit of golf glory.
The World Amateur has been the “Every Man’s Major” for more than two decades, adding a one-of-a-kind event to the golf calendar.
The tournament’s contributions to the game were recognized when the World Am won the International Network of Golf’s (ING) prestigious “Tournament Service” award, besting a field that included the Tiger Woods Chevron Charity Tournament.
