Course Assignment Project
Well, course assignments are posted and a day earlier than expected at that! We are very pleased with the quality of layouts in this year’s tournament field and I’d like to thank our area courses for their participation.
I’ve been involved with golf operations for more than a decade, and the World Amateur course and flight assignment process is among the most interesting things I’ve done. As a result, I thought I would share a quick timeline and give you an idea of how the process unfolds.
February – We sent out bid requests to Myrtle Beach area courses.
April – Received all bids from courses and updated golf course contact information.
May & June – Scoured the Grand Strand securing courses and dates, doing our best to juggle the needs of the tournament and the courses.
July – Four of us spent 20 hours, cloistered together, assigning courses to flights. Think about the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament selection committee and how much ink they get for flighting a mere 65 teams. We’ve 3,600 players!!
We try to insure two things during course assignments:
1. A flight does not visit a course it has played in the last three years.
2. Each flight gets to experience at least one South, Central and North Strand course.
July 15 – August 8 – Collected and hand-checked 4,000 handicaps, entered them into our database (by hand), and then alphabetized them in binders.
August 9-10 – We flighted the event and sent the info to our programming company to post online (22 total hours).
Monday, August 11 – Proofed the online assignments.
Tuesday, August 12 – We hosted a golf professionals information meeting at Wild Wing in the morning for host courses, then retuned to the office for the posting of flight assignments.
The most amazing thing is this was all done by a staff of 4 people. Needless to say, we had a great time doing it and hope you enjoy the results!

Great Job!!!
Now a little problem: I request to play in the same flight and Division Men with my friend from Patagonia-Argentina, Gustavo Azpeitia, who is in flight 5 - Division Men (49 & under), but I´m still in Division Senior Men-flight 13. Could you please save this situation and make the change that I request when I posted the handicap verification form. Thanks a lot. Sincerely, Alberto Pozzo Ardizzi.
Alberto,
You will be able to see the update on the course assignments by Monday afternoon.
Thanks for your answer. I´ll wait till monday afternoon to see my course assignments with my friend. Sincerely, A.Pozzo Ardizzi.

Joe W Cordelius called me to say he is going to try to transfer to Flight 31 (Super Senior) I told him I would Like to transfer with him. We are both currently in Flight 28.
You can call and check on possible flight transfers.
I submitted via fax my score history and was told my index would be adjusted, will it show on the website when that happens?
